From the Desk of Catrina Manley, MSW LCSWA
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
My name is Catrina Manley, and I am the mental health consultant for Families & Communities Rising Head Start & Early Head Start.
I am truly honored to walk alongside you and your family as we support your child’s growth and development. Mental wellness begins at home, and it is strengthened through the care, love, and connections we build each day. It influences how we relate to one another, how we handle challenges as a family, and how we create a nurturing environment where children feel safe, understood, and encouraged.
Together, we can foster a foundation of wellness that supports not only each child’s learning, but the well-being of the entire family. When families thrive, children flourish, and I am grateful to be part of that journey with you.
HOLIDAY WELLNESS & SELF-CARE TIPS
Tips to Navigate the Holiday Hustle -N- Bustle
The holidays can be joyful—and overwhelming. Give yourself permission to pause, breathe, and set realistic expectations. Small moments of calm can make a big difference.
- Protect Your Peace
- Set boundaries: It’s okay to decline invitations or limit time at stressful gatherings.
- Make space for quiet time: Even 10 minutes of stillness can reset your mood.
- Communicate Openly
- Share your needs with family and friends to avoid misunderstandings.
- Ask for help—delegating tasks can lighten emotional and physical load.
- Manage Holiday Spending
- Set a realistic budget before shopping begins.
- Practice self-compassion—the value of your presence is greater than presents.
- Keep Your Body Moving
- Take short walks, stretch, or try a light home workout.
- Movement reduces stress, boosts energy, and improves sleep.
- Nourish Yourself
- Enjoy your favorite holiday foods, but don’t forget to hydrate and include balanced meals.
- Avoid skipping meals, which can heighten stress and irritability.
- Check In with Yourself
- Ask: How am I feeling today? What do I need right now? Self-awareness helps you stay grounded during busy seasons.
- Be Kind to Yourself
- This season isn’t about perfection—it’s about connection, care, and taking things one moment at a time.
